Taking up the rear

Pre-cycle prep

I’ve bought SO MUCH CRAP for this ride to Paris. In all, I must have spent two grand on bikes and bike accessories in the last twelve months, and it all feels worthwhile, in the same way that it’s impossible to feel guilty for buying a novel. I’m bettering myself, okay?

Today - and hopefully the final purchase before heading off, bleary-eyed but carb-loaded to the gills, at 5.30am tomorrow morning - I bought a lightweight waterproof jacket, a “Marmot” brand. It had better fit in my bag - I am only taking two small rucksacks and am still shutting out the reality of how I’m going to fit everything I need into them.

On top of that, this week has also seen me purchase a bike computer (measures speed/distance AND cadence!), a box of isotonic drink sachets, a saddle bag that doesn’t fit which I have to send back (grumble) and a titanium bottle cage. That’s titanium. A bottle cage made of titanium. What a ponce.
